Barrie's Shoes~Shoes for the Entire family!
Have you ever wondered how the "boat shoe" came to be and why the soles have that unique pattern? Well, wonder no more. In the early 1900s a sailor and inventor from New England was consistently amazed at how easily his dog walked across the deck of his rolling sailboat while he, himself, slipped around. He decided to investigate the matter. Upon careful study and magnification of his dog's paws, he realized the dog's traction was a result his paw's perfect pattern. Small squiggles open and close slightly in movement but not enough to allow space to capture dirt or stones. Ahha!  He shortly thereafter patented a shoe with a sole of the same design. Ultimately, the patent was bought by Sperry, who crafted what we know today as the  Sperry Topsider Boat Shoe! Wow!
Barries Shoes - (9501Third Ave. 609-368-8200) carries a full selection of the Official Sperry Topsider Boat Shoes.
